Our counterweight adapter is specifically designed to allow attachment of one of our "Steve's Detector Rods" counterweights to either a Minelab Manticore, or a Minelab Equinox 700/900.
The adapter is made of anodized aluminum, secured with an Allen-head screw, and capped (when a counterweight is not being used) with a plastic, screw-in end cap.
While customers who wish to use one of our counterweights on a "Steve's Detector Rods" shaft will usually purchase the shaft "counterweight-ready" (i.e. with a threaded aluminum adapter
permanently installed in the butt end of the shaft), we do not build upper shafts for either the Manticore, or the Equinox 700/900. Therefore, we can't offer a counterweight-ready shaft
for these detectors, and thus -- until now -- customers have been unable use one of our SDR counterweights with either of these units. This adapter solves that issue, allowing use of
one of our counterweights with either a Manticore, or an Equinox 700/900.
Installation of the adapter is easy; you simply remove the shaft end cap, and slide the adapter into the butt end of the shaft. If using the adapter with the Manticore, you install the
"ring" (included with the adapter) onto the adapter before sliding it into the shaft, to account for the angled cut on the butt end of the Manticore shaft. If using with the Equinox
700/900, the adapter should be installed without the "ring." Finally, once installed, you simply tighten the screw inside the adapter with the supplied 3mm Allen wrench, securing the
adapter to the inside walls of the shaft as it gradually "expands" (the adapter functions using the same principle that is used to attach handlebars to a bicycle).
The advantage of this attachment system is that it allows the adapter to attach to the inside of the shaft securely, but not permanently, and therefore will not void
the Minelab shaft warranty (as opposed to a permanent installation using epoxy or other adhesive).
While the adapter is designed specifically for use the with the Manticore or Equinox 700/900, the adapter can also be used with any shaft with 20mm inner diameter -- which means
almost all carbon-fiber shafts with 7/8" (22mm) outer diameter. This includes Steve's Detector Rods shafts for the Equinox 600/800, Deus II, and Gold Monster. This
also includes the Minelab stock shaft for the Equinox 600/800, along with most other brands of carbon-fiber shafts for the Equinox 600/800.
If a counterweight is also needed, please consider our Counterweight Adapter "Kit" (which includes BOTH the adapter AND the counterweight), found
here.
